There was a time when Al Gore was the most visible person on the planet. He was everywhere. Then Climategate broke and he dropped off the face of the Earth. So where is he?
UPDATE: Algore found, flogs dead horse, says “mistake were made”, bores us to death. From the New York Times:
By AL GORE
It would be an enormous relief if the recent attacks on the science of global warming actually indicated that we do not face an unimaginable calamity requiring large-scale, preventive measures to protect human civilization as we know it.
Umm, sure. Does that sound like somebody who would be happy to see global warming debunked?
Of course, we would still need to deal with the national security risks of our growing dependence on a global oil market dominated by dwindling reserves in the most unstable region of the world, and the economic risks of sending hundreds of billions of dollars a year overseas in return for that oil. And we would still trail China in the race to develop smart grids, fast trains, solar power, wind, geothermal and other renewable sources of energy — the most important sources of new jobs in the 21st century.
So Al Gore says that even if global warming turns out to be the biggest hoax in modern times, he still thinks his global warming legislation would be great for other reasons! He’s basically admitting what we’ve known for some time now– that people have been jumping on the global warming bandwagon because they think it furthers their other pet agendas, from breaking our dependence on foreign oil, green technologies, the culture of consumerism, to anti-corporatism. And in Gores case, his carbon trading company. Yeah, debunking global warming would come as an “enormous relief” to him indeed.
I, for one, genuinely wish that the climate crisis were an illusion. But unfortunately, the reality of the danger we are courting has not been changed by the discovery of at least two mistakes in the thousands of pages of careful scientific work over the last 22 years by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In fact, the crisis is still growing because we are continuing to dump 90 million tons of global-warming pollution every 24 hours into the atmosphere — as if it were an open sewer.
What he calls 90 million tons of “global-warming pollution” is what we call carbon dioxide– CO2. In other words plant food. The way you breathe oxygen, plants breathe CO2. They need it to thrive and survive. The more CO2, the faster the plant grows. That’s Al’s global warming “pollution.” He intentionally conflates CO2 with “pollution” because that’s how he lassos all those people who honestly do care about pollution into his warmist cause. It’s a marketing ploy, and a lie. Without CO2 there would be no life on Earth.
It is true that the climate panel published a flawed overestimate of the melting rate of debris-covered glaciers in the Himalayas, and used information about the Netherlands provided to it by the government, which was later found to be partly inaccurate. In addition, e-mail messages stolen from the University of East Anglia in Britain showed that scientists besieged by an onslaught of hostile, make-work demands from climate skeptics may not have adequately followed the requirements of the British freedom of information law.
No, Al. Something isn’t a “mistake” when it’s done on purpose. Everything the warmists got busted for they did KNOWINGLY and INTENTIONALLY, and then attacked anybody who questioned them about it.
From the standpoint of governance, what is at stake is our ability to use the rule of law as an instrument of human redemption. After all has been said and so little done, the truth about the climate crisis — inconvenient as ever — must still be faced.
Really, Al? You mean like a religion? Color me shocked!
And notice how The New York Times couldn’t be bothered to report on Climategate, but they sure have no problem at all giving Al Gore the mic to respond to Climategate. See how it works, gentle readers? Media bias isn’t just found in their slanted reporting, or their outright lies and factual omissions. Mostly it’s what they knowingly choose NOT to report. That is what makes it so insidious. It’s not lying if they don’t say anything, right? But then they unintentionally expose their naked agenda by reporting the response to the original “non-story”– the non-story which you weren’t supposed to have heard about! Which means Al Gore’s acknowledgment of “mistakes” is coming right out of the clear blue sky to most of the NY Time’s readership.
But here Gore is just repeating the warmist cant, and trying to minimize the impact of Climategate and his public beclowning. You know how when Al Gore talks, it’s like he’s a school marm in front of her 3rd grade class? That’s how it reads. I won’t fisk it with you because frankly his tone infuriates me, and regular readers know we’ve already addressed most of his major points in prior posts at CCHQ. The guy isn’t even a scientist, and refuses to debate any comers. He just wants his pulpit from which to preach his sermons at you, which the NY Times is more than happy to provide him. That doesn’t mean we have to oblige the blowhard, does it? But if you absolutely have to know what Al Gore thinks about global warming, and you’re something of a masochist, Ann Althouse fisks him for you, here, and Republican Heretic dismantles him here.
