Liberal: Brit Hume=Jihadist, waging “holy war”

When I was young, evangelical conservative types sometimes asked why I was a Liberal, and my stock response to them was always, I’m Liberal because I’m a christian.  If that answer ever made any sense, it certainly doesn’t anymore.  They are no longer even bothering to pretend.

MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann went after Fox News Channel’s Brit Hume for comments Brit made about Christianity this weekend.

OLBERMANN: (2:15 in) Isn’t this the classic thing that your mother probably also  pointed out to you about never discussing religion in public? You can discuss religion in public. Its like this that you’re not supposed to do it. This crosses that principle. Keep religious advocacy out of public life since the worst examples of that are Jihadists—not to mention guys who don’t know their own religions or someone else’s religion like Brit Hume.

That’s not how I remember it, Keith.  My mother never pointed that out to me.  In fact, quite the opposite.  My mother taught me to be quite unashamed to speak about my faith in public.

At one point as the Countdown host plugged a segment in which he discussed Hume with author Dan Savage, the words “Hume’s Holy War” were shown at the bottom of the screen as Olbermann spoke: “So Brit Hume tells Tiger Woods he can be forgiven, but only if he converts to Christianity. Fox has given up all pretense, hasn’t it?”

It seems they’ve tired of their usual “American taliban” bon mot.  Notice the vaunted “nuance” and “subtlety” of their approach though.  That’s what they’re famous for, right?  Nuance and subtlety?  Olbermann also quips, “”WWJDIHS,” which is: What would Jesus do if he strayed? to continue mocking Brit Hume.  Notice the signature secular progressive “courage” regarding anything to do with christians and christianity.  Ferocious as lions they are, as they strut for their audience; until someone mentions Islam or Mohammad.  Then a hush descends upon the room, and they become gentle and meek as lambs.

Keith Olberman and his co-host Dan Savage get a lot more ugly.  Courtesy Washington Times, here. Full transcript at Newsbusters, here.

  1. I seriously thought that Olberman said, “What would Jesus do if he was straight?”

  2. When the Bush administration decided to ignore international law and invade a peaceful country to overthrow a dictator that was put in place there by the Reagan Administration, they went against every principle that made this country great. Until we remove all our troops from the middle-east, and do something to solve our problems at home, our reputation in every country is ruined. If I could afford to go anywhere after the damage the neoconservative war/profit-mongers have done to our economy, I would definitely say I was from Canada. I invite you to my pages devoted to raising awareness on these important issues:
