Netanyahu: Not “peace activists”, not a “love boat”

Israel regrets the loss of life, but we will never apologize for defending ourselves.  Israel has every right to prevent deadly weapons from entering into hostile territory.  And Israeli soldiers have every right to defend their lives and their country.  The Jewish state has a right to defend itself just like any other state.

Partial transcription:

…This is not a theoretical challenge or a theoretical threat. We have already interdicted vessels bound for Hizbullah, and for Hamas from Iran, containing hundreds of tons of weapons. In one ship, the Francop, we found hundreds of tons of war materiel and weapons destined for Hizbullah. In another celebrated case, the Karine A, dozens of tons of weapons were destined for Hamas by Iran via a shipment to Gaza. Israel simply cannot permit the free flow of weapons and war materials to Hamas from the sea.

I will go further than that. Israel cannot permit Iran to establish a Mediterranean port a few dozen kilometers from Tel Aviv and from Jerusalem. And I would go beyond that too. I say to the responsible leaders of all the nations: The international community cannot afford an Iranian port in the Mediterranean. Fifteen years ago I cautioned about an Iranian development that has come to pass – people now recognize that danger. Today I warn of this impending willingness to enable Iran to establish a naval port right next to Israel, right next to Europe. The same countries that are criticizing us today should know that they will be targeted tomorrow.

For this and for many other reasons, we have a right to inspect cargo heading into Gaza.

And here’s our policy. It’s very simple: Humanitarian and other goods can go in and weapons and war materiel cannot. And we do let civilian goods into Gaza. There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Each week, an average of ten thousand tons of goods enter Gaza. There’s no shortage of food. There’s no shortage of medicine. There’s no shortage of other goods…

Our naval personnell, just as they landed on the ship, as seen in the videos, were met by a vicious mob.  They were stabbed, they were clubbed, they were fired upon.  I talked to some of these soldiers.  One was shot in the stomach.  One was shot in the knee.  They were going to be killed.  And they had to act in self-defense.  It’s very clear to us that the attackers had prepared their violent action in advance. They were members of an extremist group that has supported international terrorists organizations, and today support the terror organization called Hamas.

Once again Israel is told that it has a right to defend itself, but is condemned every time it exercises that right.  You know that a right that you are not allowed to exercise is meaningless. And you know that the way we exercise it under these conditions of duress, under the rocketing of our cities, under the impending killing of our soldiers, you know that we exercise it in a way that is comensurate with any international standard.

It is time to take action against the Nazi state of Israel

  2. Nazi? Thank you for your very thoughtful, measured, and well-informed opinion.

  3. You think about it! Don’t you understand that intelligent, considered men of principle throughout the world believe that the way Israel is now behaving is just as bad as the Nazis!!

I condemn the great evil that Islam has become in the world but Israel gives them every excuse. Gaza is now the biggest concentration camp ever and Israel oppresses, bullies, brutalises, starves and denies the rights of the Palestinian people. It is shameful!

My country fought to create the state of Israel so that the Jews could have a homeland after the holocaust, the greatest tragedy in human history. Israel has betrayed those who fought for it. You are now as bad as those that offended against you.

Yes – thoughtful, measured and well-informed. You think about it!

  4. On your website you equate Israel with Al-qaida. That’s all anybody needs to know about whom you consider to be “intelligent, considered men.” Here’s that Gazan “concentration camp” we keep hearing about:

And why don’t you allow my comments on your blog, Peter?

  6. All your comments to my blog are published.

What both sides need is jaw, jaw not war, war.

It’s good to talk with you.

  7. Don’t bother trying to change the minds of people like “Peter.” They are delusional and cannot handle the raw facts in front of their face. They do not process it.
But good job JL, you are one of the few who see the truth. I will recommend this blog to all of my friends. Thanks!

  8. Joel,

    “one of the few”

Maybe you should think about that? Why so few?

Please think again about “facts”. I think you are the victim of propaganda. I am not allied to either side.

    Read the truth here:

Please have the courage to engage rather than just accusing your opponent of being “delusional”. That’s just an excuse.

  9. Peter,

I applaud your struggle for the ‘truth’ but I don’t think you know what that word means. If you think the truth is something that can be gotten at by ‘piercing the veil’ of propaganda then you don’t know how thick that veil is.

You mock terms like ‘Nazi’ when you equate Israel to them. Shame on you for making that utterly simplistic equation divorced from reality.

And like all good terrorist sympathizers you always include the ‘but’ in your rhetorical ‘condemnation’ of jihadi violence. You either condemn it or you don’t … and if you don’t you support it.

You want Israel to be the country it should be but refuse to acknowledge the target on their back since day one … from the poorest kid in Damascus to the most privileged white bread in Berkley the call is loud and clear (since day one, so please spare us the ‘but you give so many reasons for them to hate you’) ERADICATION.

Wake Up Peter Reynolds! The Matrix has you …

  10. Petey, like so many of these wannabes, sees himself as a potentate in a better, atavistic world, married to two miraculously uncircumcised Afar women, living in his tent with clear horizons. Instead he takes the bus back to his place, fires up the laptop, turns on a CFL (just one: that’s the sacrament), and tells himself he’s enjoying his tofu. Hence comes the delusion. As a white male, he must stand aside (whispers the little girl’s voice inside him).

  11. I believe, old boy, that in the modern vernacular, as a pompous old Brit, (chortle, chortle), the correct terminology for that little riddle of meaninglessness is “LOL”. (chortle, chortle)
