The Mainstream Media’s War on Fox

Politicians fear the press; or at least they should if the press is doing its job.  President Obama fears Fox news, which means they’re doing their job.  They should wear that fear like a badge of honor.  That’s why the White House has waged a well-publicized war on Fox. This blogger, surprisingly perhaps, has no problem with that, actually.  I have no more problem with Obama’s war on Fox than I do with a cat giving you allergies, or a dog eating your homework.  It’s their nature, that’s what cats, dogs and Presidents under fire do.

What’s odd here though—and revealing– is that the MSM has joined in this war against Fox, and in doing so are continuing to expose themselves as the Leftwing partisan, Democrat water-carrying hacks we have always known them to be.

Executives at National Public Radio recently asked the network’s top political correspondent, Mara Liasson, to reconsider her regular appearances on Fox News because of what they perceived as the network’s political bias, two sources familiar with the effort said.

According to a source, Liasson was summoned in early October by NPR’s executive editor for news, Dick Meyer, and the network’s supervising senior Washington editor, Ron Elving. The NPR executives said they had concerns that Fox’s programming had grown more partisan, and they asked Liasson to spend 30 days watching the network.

At a follow-up meeting last month, Liasson reported that she’d seen no significant change in Fox’s programming and planned to continue appearing on the network, the source said.

The insular bubbleheads at tax-payer funded NPR see no irony whatsoever in accusing Fox of being biased—even as they try to prevent Fox News from including Mara Liasson in their panels to cover the left flank on an issue.  No irony whatsoever.  A flower pot has more self-awareness than they do.  Hey, NPR.  How bout you just do your frikin job.

NPR, and their fellow travelers in the MSM, especially hate that Fox claims to be “fair and balanced.”  It burns them up.  And Fox lays claim to balance and fairness by mixing it up on their panels (precisely what NPR doesn’t want), and by covering stories the rest of the MSM won’t, like ACORN, Climategate, President Obama’s bolshevik czars, etc., in addition to the ones covered by the MSM monolith.  Thus Fox News’ mere existence, by virtue of covering stories the MSM won’t touch, is the fairness and balance they claim in their slogan– even if their critics in the MSM might detect a slant in how those stories are covered.  And by what rights do they accuse Fox News of bias, by the way, when the clowns don’t even deign to cover the story themselves?  The question answers itself.

Unlike Fox News, the big players in the MSM would not even dare claim “balance” because to make such a claim out loud would be a tacit admission there are other sides to the story—which might tempt you to stray in search of that alternative viewpoint.  But to the Ivy League J-schoolers of the MSM, there is no other side, any more than there is another side to breathing oxygen.  There is only their side, or no side at all.  It isn’t merely that they cover stories with a Liberal slant– that I would fully expect them to do.  It’s that they will entirely ignore an inconvenient story and pretend it doesn’t exist if it runs counter to the elitist, bi-coastal, secular humanist, leftwing narrative they are dedicated to promoting.  Remember Charlie Gibson feigning ignorance about ACORN? Thus Fox’s claim to “fair and balanced” becomes an indictment and a j’accuse of the MSM monolith.  This makes Fox News a real problem.  It is a disturbance in the Force.  It is errant code in the Matrix.  And it has to be frozen, isolated, and purged.

NPR is especially egregious in their monolithic reporting of the news.  I’ve listened to them going on 20 years now, and their panels usually consist of some Lib or another giving the lefty angle of the story, and another Lib giving his version of the “rightwing” angle, which isn’t the rightwing version at all; or only in the most caricaturish sense.  And that’s their “balance.”  The typical NPR listener then goes about his merry way, sipping his latte and patting himself on the back, congratulating himself for his good standing in the Liberal socio-cogno-cultural elite.  It’s why being on the Left is such an insular bubble of an existence, and why anybody who disagrees with them couldn’t possibly be anything other than evil.  And it reveals how utterly out of touch are the gatekeepers of the Liberal media (redundant, I know) with the mainstream of American thinking and values, and why they are so mistrusted by the overwhelming majority of the American public. Finally, it’s also why this dinosaur media is going extinct, and it couldn’t happen soon enough.
